Evon Breeding of Spearfish, South Dakota June 20, 1919 – October 9, 2019 Evon Ward Breeding, of Spearfish, SD, passed away on October 9th, 2019 on her beloved family farm after a full life, of 100 years, well lived. She was one of six children born to Charles and Rose Wheeler in Newell, South Dakota. She was preceded in death by all five of her siblings. She graduated from Belle Fouche High School in 1937. She married Harold Ward and raised their four children, Margaret “Peggy” McAvoy, Mary Kay Collins, Harold Greg Ward, and Karen Island, on the family farm she loved and managed for many years. She was preceded in death by Harold in 1952 and her second husband, Gerald (Gerry) Breeding in 1998. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Kay Collins, and Karen Island, eight grandchildren, and twenty-six great grandchildren. She was welcoming and hospitable to many on her farm including fishermen that came from far and wide to fish for trout in the beautiful “crick” that flowed through the farm. Her family is grateful for countless precious memories and fabulous recipes for Maple Nut Cream Pie and Pickled Beets that will always remind them of their time with “Grammie” on the farm under the weeping willow trees with George, her golden retriever, by their side. A celebration of Evon’s life is being planned and will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels and Isburg Crematory of Spearfish.
