Obituary of Dorothy Geddings Barkley Dorothy Geddings Barkley, 88, widow of Richard Gilbert Barkley, Sr., died Saturday, October 26, 2019 at The Gardens at Sumter. Born in Sumter she was the daughter of the late John Huggins Geddings and Minnie Margie Barfield. Mrs. Barkley was a devoted member of Bethel Baptist Church working tirelessly for her Lord in every capacity there. A most beloved mother she is survived by 2 sons, Ricky Barkley (Jennie), Mike Barkley (Donna) all of Sumter; 4 daughters, Sandra Hogan (Joey) of Spartanburg, Susan Eleazer (Hal) of Chesnee, Lynn Barkley of Sumter, Beverly Fogner (Steve) of Summerton, 2 sisters, Florie Bradshaw and Peggy Turner, both of Sumter; 1 brother, Frank Geddings of Hiawassee, Georgia; 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at 1 PM Wednesday at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Fraser officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as Pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home of her son, Mike Barkley, 3545 Cox Rd. Memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, 2401 Bethel Church Rd. Sumter, SC 29154.
