David’s Obituary On Wednesday, October 23, 2019, Charles David Baker, Gospel preacher, loving husband of 50 years, father of 3 Christian children passed away peacefully at his home in Emory at the age of 69. David was born in Houston, Texas on December 24, 1949 to Charles and Dorothy Baker. He married Opal Blake in 1969. He served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He and Opal raised two daughters, Jo Ann and Ranae, and one son, Paul David. In 1986, he enrolled in the Southwest School of Bible Studies and began a preaching career that lasted twenty-four years and touched countless souls. He preached for nineteen years for the Emory church of Christ and also served as an elder. David enjoyed aggravating, playing dominoes and was a dedicated outdoorsman, but his passion in life was preaching the Gospel. David was preceded in death by his father, Charles, and his mother, Dorothy. He is survived by his devoted wife, Opal, and their children: Jo Ann Gibson and husband Michael of Crockett, Texas, Ranae Bryan and husband James of Emory, Texas, Paul Baker and wife Holly of Portland, Texas. David is also survived by nine grandchildren: Ethan, Caleb, Michael, Noah, Luke, Isaac, Emma, Brandon and Andy. Visitation will be held at the Emory church of Christ building on Sunday, October 27 from 2:00-4:00. The funeral will be held at the same location Monday, October 28 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Southwest School of Bible Studies in Austin, Texas in remembrance of David Baker.
