Charles C. “Chuck” Crabb October 26, 1936 – September 25, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card ZAPATA, TEXAS—Charles C. “Chuck” Crabb 82, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at Doctor’s Hospital in Laredo, Texas. Chuck is survived by his two loves, Tiny and Rhoda L. Jones; two sons, John Miller and James Miller and by numerous other family members and friends. Chuck was born on October 30, 1936 in Western Iowa. His family members moved to Colorado where he was raised at the end of the World War II in 1945. Chuck’s father was a ranch hand and moved from ranch to ranch before he was institutionalized. His mother remarried to a ranch foreman in Castlerock, Colorado. Chuck dropped out of school after completing the 9th grade. On October 30, 1953 he was inducted in the United States Marine Corp. During his career in the Marines, he received his High School GED and took college courses at Branch Colleges. Crabb retired from the Marines in July 1974. He went to work in North Carolina and received an Associate Degree from Coastal Carolina Community College. Chuck was accepted into East Carolina University and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial and a Teaching Certificate. He continued with school and received a Masters Degree in Education in 1984. After completing his Masters, he taught high school in Atlanta, Georgia for two years, during which he met his third wife which was from Texas. Chuck applied and was accepted as a Probation Officer in Bonham, Texas. In 1992, he resigned and moved to Zapata in February of 1993.Since being in Zapata, he loves to be involved with the local Veterans’ Organizations serving in various capacities which include the Marine Corp League and The American Legion. Chuck was Commander for the VFW. His dedication and spirit to the corp and second to none. He kept the charter open for eight years when there were no members, but himself. He held fundraisers and kept it open. United States Marine Corps 1st Sgt. Manuel Garcia commented that, “this town would be better if we had more individuals with integrity like Mr. Chuck Crabb.” A Celebration of his life will be held on Friday, October 4, 2019 at Patno’s at 4:00 p.m. Chuck knew no strangers; he was a friend to everyone. Chuck’s wishes were to be cremated and buried at the Rio Grande State Veterans Cemetery in Mission, Texas. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rose Garden Funeral Home Daniel A. Gonzalez, Funeral Director, 2102 N. US HWY 83 Zapata, Texas.
