Carl’s Obituary Carl Mitchell Bartlett, 61, passed away on October 24, 2019 in his home in Tea, SD after a long battle with cancer. His Funeral will be 11:00 AM Saturday, November 2, 2019 at White River Community Event Center in White River, SD. Family Present Visitation will also be on Saturday, from 9:00-11:00 AM at the White River Community Event Center. George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory, Sioux Falls has been entrusted with arrangements. Carl Mitchell Bartlett was born in Valentine, NE on January 1, 1958. He was the second child of Ray and Edna (Larsen) Bartlett. His siblings are Clint Bartlett (Julia Charging Whirlwind), Sabrina (Richard) Harmon, and Amanda (Tim) Hill. His childhood was spent in the White River, SD area attending and graduating from White River School District in the Class of 1976. Carl lettered in football and basketball, he was also a class officer, homecoming attendant and student council officer. He participated in class plays and sang in the high school chorus. When growing up, he raised Hereford cattle and hogs, broke and rode horses, hayed and combined alfalfa seed for local ranchers. He helped on construction crews, drove truck and was one of the owners of the C.R.C. (Clint, Ray and Carl) Supply where they sold Zip Feed in White River, SD. Carl was coached by his dad, Ray Bartlett, from T-Ball all the way through American Legion Teams. Carl was a baptized, confirmed, and a member of the United Methodist Church in White River, SD. Carl was united in marriage to Cheryl Kary, of rural Parmelee, SD on December 22, 1978 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Norris, SD. Carl and Cheryl lived in Spearfish, SD most of their married life. Carl worked on a ranch outside of Spearfish, SD. He held construction positions in the Spearfish, SD area where he had the opportunity to work on several pieces of the Black Hills Area History including the Michelson Trail Tunnels and D.C. Booth Fish Hatchery. Carl and Cheryl had one son, Kevin Ashley Bartlett. Kevin was united in marriage to Sara Rae Homan on October 11, 2003. They have three children, Elliott Mitchell, born May 30, 2006, Channing Wesley and Brenna Jean, born January 6, 2010. Carl was able to coach Kevin’s soccer and baseball teams throughout his childhood. One team Carl coached was honored to make it as far as Runner Up in the South Dakota Region Little League Finals. Carl enjoyed traveling and working with the teams of the boys he coached. After Kevin graduated high school, Carl and Cheryl moved to the Kenosha and Green Bay, Wisconsin areas. He worked at Breezy Hill Nursery in Kenosha leading crews for the company. When they moved to Green Bay, Carl led a crew for Pahls Window and Doors. Carl also enjoyed being a Wisconsin tour guide for the family members that came to visit every year with Edna, his mother. After Kevin and Sara, brought their first grandchild (Elliott) home, Carl and Cheryl decided they needed to move back to the Sioux Falls, SD area to be closer to them. After moving back to South Dakota, Carl worked various construction positions before working for First Rate Excavating of Sioux Falls, SD as a truck driver around the tri-state area. He enjoyed working at First Rate, participating in yearly golf outings, and other company events. Carl loved to hunt, fish, bowl, golf, play horseshoes, and work with cattle. He enjoyed being around his grandchildren, going to all of their games, band concerts, and church events. When Carl was back in White River for holidays, he enjoyed a good game of cards with his nieces and nephews. Grandpa Ray would have been proud of their card playing abilities. One of Carl’s favorite memories was helping Kevin and Elliott both get their first deer, on Kevin’s maternal grandmother, Susan Kary’s Centennial Ranch. When he went pheasant hunting with Kevin, Elliott and Channing he took his loyal companions, Molly and Macy with him. They didn’t seem to fetch many birds, however, they had a good run through the countryside. Carl always had a green thumb with flowers and gardens galore, especially roses of all colors. He also enjoyed photography and loved checking for the prefect picture. He often said he should make calendars or have his pictures framed, as they were unique and caught the beauty of the outdoors. Officiating the ceremony will be Pastor Jason Christensen of the United Methodist Church of White River, SD. The United Methodist Church Auxiliary will be hosting a meal for the reception. Paul bearers are his nephews: Calvin Rans, Chris Rans, Dustin Schmidt, Rozen Hill, Heath Hill, Matthew Bartlett, Custis Harmon, Lanson Bartlett, and Christian Bartlett. Carl will be laid to rest in the White River, SD Cemetery next to his mom and dad. Honorary Pallbearers are Carl’s grandchildren, Elliott, Channing, Brenna and all of Carl’s family and friends. Thank you for sharing Carl’s life. Carl is survived by his wife, Cheryl, son, Kevin, daughter in law, Sara (Homan), grandchildren, Elliott, Channing and Brenna of Montrose, SD. Brother, Clint Bartlett of White River, SD, Sisters, Sabrina (Richard) Harmon, Newell, SD, Amanda (Tim) Hill, White River, SD, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Edna Bartlett, and sister-in-law, Julia Charging Whirlwind.
