Betty May (Harner) Schoenfeld May 02, 1933 – September 28, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Betty May (Harner) Schoenfeld, 86, passed away peacefully at hospice house on Sept. 28, 2019, in Roseland, Indiana. Betty is survived by her three children, William Curtis Schoenfeld, of Niles, Douglas Schoenfeld, of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Kathy (Schoenfeld) Mankowski (Steven), of Niles; her brother, James Harner (Nancy), of Fort Myers, Florida. She is survived by three grandchildren, Cory Mankowski (Nadine), Aaron Schoenfeld, Derek Mankowski (Kourtney). Her great-grandchildren, ranging in ages between 15 years and 18 months are Kendall Stickel, Chloe Mankowski, Kaylynn Mankowski, Raelynn Schoenfeld, Johnathan Schoenfeld and Daxton Mankowski. She was preceded in death by her parents Orville Harner and Eva (Lolmaugh) Best, of Buchanan, Michigan. Betty was born on May 2, 1933, in Buchanan. She graduated from Buchanan High School in 1950 and attended Davenport College. She married William Lester Schoenfeld in 1956. Betty retired from National Standard and in her golden years, worked at Notre Dame as a hall monitor. Betty was an extremely kind and caring person who loved adventure and music. Her favorite bands were The Eagles, Pink Floyd and Tom Petty. Betty enjoyed going to Lake Michigan to watch the sunset at Weko Beach. Betty loved to travel, and her family remembers the anticipation that would grow in the preceding weeks before a trip. She lovingly crocheted intricate and beautiful blankets for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. A graveside service is scheduled at 3 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 7, at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Buchanan. Pastor Chuck Zoom of Summit Church will officiate the ceremony. Arrangements are being coordinated by Hoven Funeral Home of Buchanan. All are invited to celebrate Betty’s life. The family would like to thank Brenda McLain for being Betty’s loyal friend. Brenda and Betty were fearless adventurers and made beautiful memories together over the last several years.
