Betty’s Obituary Sioux Falls, SD ~ Betty Ann Mott, age 86, died on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, surrounded by her family. Private funeral services have been held. Betty Ann Mitchell was born on April 12, 1933 in Bellevue, NE to Col. Marvin and Mildred (Dennell) Mitchell. With her father active in the US Army, Betty spent her youth as an “Army Brat” traveling throughout the world with her family. Betty met her husband, Richard H. Mott on a ship to Okinawa, Japan. It was love at first sight and they were married six months later on June 27, 1952 in Naha, Okinawa. The couple spent 57 wonderful years together and were blessed with six children, nineteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. Betty loved spending time with her family and made tremendous efforts in creating wonderful memories and learning experiences for her children. Many days were spent making crafts, going on field trips, and having picnics. Betty had a special way of making each holiday unique and memorable. As her family grew, she continued to cultivate these special memories for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Betty was a competitive woman and loved playing Bridge and going bowling with her friends. Giving back and helping others was important to Betty leading her to spend time volunteering for many organizations throughout her life. Betty was an excellent cook and took great pride in hosting her family for holiday parties. In her retirement years, Betty and Richard loved traveling the country in their RV and spent many winters in the Southwest. Grateful for having shared her life are her six children: Elaine Johnson and her husband, Craig, Sioux Falls, SD, Susan Bulley and her husband, Jim, Columbus, MS, Diane Rasmussen and her husband, Robb, Sioux Falls, SD, Cindy Campbell and her husband, Gary, Orlando, FL, Richard E. Mott and his wife, Eva, Sioux Falls, SD, Jeffrey Mott and his wife, Sue, Sioux Falls, SD; 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one brother Gary L. Mitchell and his wife, Pat of Hot Springs, AR; her canine companion, Rusty; and a host of other relatives and friends. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Richard H. Mott; her parents, Col. Marvin and Mildred Mitchell; one brother, Marvin E. Mitchell; and one sister, Peggy Rosser. Read More
