Audrey Dee Tate, age 91 of Johns Creek, Ga and Matthews, NC died October 16, 2019 at her daughter, Barbara’s home, surrounded by her children. She is survived by her children, Deborah Hughes (Richard) of Matthews,NC; Michael Tate (Cindy) of Clarmont, FL; Richard Tate (Tracey) of Springfield,IL; and Barbara Hammond (Dave) of Johns Creek, GA; 13 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; sister, Charlotte Collins of Las Vegas, Charles Pittman of Springfield, IL and too many friends to count. Audrey was born in Jacksonville,IL. She continued to live in central Illinois where she met her husband, James Tate. They lived and raised their children in Decatur, IL. While raising four children and being a constant supporter of her husband she found time to be a leader in her community. Audrey was PTA President and held many leadership roles at Central Christian Church. She was an avid sports fan, a constant reader, a golfer and bridge player, and a lover of all parties. She retired with Jim to Sebring, FL in 1998 where they enjoyed life making new friends, moving and decorating several homes, and playing golf and bridge. No matter how busy, she was always interested in the lives of her children and grandchildren talking and visiting with them often. Her last 4 1/2 years she took turns living with Barbara and Debbie where she enriched the lives of her family even more. Her legacy is not in these facts but in the lives of her family and friends. They are all better people because of her and will be challenged every day to share her faith, her optimism, her love of family, and the joy she brought to everyone she met. A memorial service will be held in early 2020 in Decatur,IL. If you wish to honor her you may make a donation to a charity of your choice and make an effort to continue her legacy every day.
