Albert James Barras June 09, 1949 – August 10, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Upload Photo| Sign Guestbook| View Guestbook Entries| Send Sympathy Card Memorial services will be held on August 25, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Acadian Funeral Home in New Iberia for Albert (Al) James Barras, age 70, who passed away August 10, 2019 at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital in Lake Charles LA. Survivors include four children; Blake R. Barras, Lighthouse Point FL, Jeffery (Ana) Barras, Walker LA, Jennifer (Rob) Kerne, Thibodaux LA and James (Angelica) Barras, Hammond LA; his mother Inez L. Barras, Lafayette; brother Kenneth (Karen) Barras Sr, Lexington KY, and sisters Julaine (Scott) Coco and Suellyn (David) Crouch both of Lafayette. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren . Al was preceded in death by his father, Alberie J. Barras and his brother in law, Jack E. Allen. Al was born in New Iberia and attended Catholic High School. At the time of his death, Al was employed by the Calcasieu Parish School System teaching visually and hearing impaired students orientation and mobility skills. He was one of a very few instructors that were certified in this field. Prior to working in Vinton, Al worked in Harrisburg PA, Memphis TN, Little Rock AR and for many years in Lafayette and Iberia Parishes in Louisiana. He was also the owner of Vision Services in Lafayette LA, serving clients in Acadia and St. Martin Parishes. Al graduated with Bachelor Degrees from the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now University of Louisiana) and the University of Arkansas. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from noon until time of services at 1:00 pm at Acadian Funeral Home. Services will be conducted by Deacon Chris Doumit. Inurnment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery in New Iberia immediately following the services. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the charity of your choice. Al always had a soft heart for animals, so donations to animal rescue charities would have been his preference. Acadian Funeral Home of New Iberia, is in charge of arrangements.
