Wayne Ervin Hefner, 79, passed away Monday, September 23, 2019, at Carolina Caring of Sherrills Ford after a brief illness. Wayne was born August 21, 1940, in Alexander County, to the late Earl Lee and Nelda (Bet) Smith Hefner. He was a veteran of the U.S. Airforce serving during the Vietnam era and was a retired long-distance truck driver for several Hickory furniture companies including Kincaid Furniture, Highland House, Deville Furniture and Clayton Marcus. known as “Beanpole”, Wayne was the “best big brother” and was loved by his family. Surviving are his brothers, Tommy (Deborah) Hefner, Clifford (Ruby) Hefner and Randal Hefner; his sisters, Collene Lafone, Nancy (Steve) Campbell, Judy (Tommy) Norton, Earlene (Patrick) Cheung and Jearldine Childers; a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A memorial service will be held at Alexander Funeral Service on Saturday, October 5, 2019. Receiving of friends will be at 1:00pm with a service to follow at 2:00pm. Pastor Eric Hauss of St. Peters Lutheran Church will officiate the service. Memorials may be made to Carolina Caring Hospice House Sherrills Ford, 7473 Sherrills Ford Road, Sherrills Ford, NC 28673 or to St. Peters Lutheran Church, 6175 St. Peters Church Road, Conover, NC 28613.
