Sylvia Ann Ussery February 21, 1970 – August 12, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Sylvia Ann Ussery, 49, of Overland Park, Kansas, left for her Heavenly home on Monday, August 12, 2019. Sylvia was born February 21, 1970 in Catawba County N.C. Sylvia is a graduate of Hickory High School, and attended Bennett College in Greensboro, N.C. before enlisting in the U.S. Army where she served from 1991 to 1998. Upon exiting the military, Sylvia attended Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville N.C. Sylvia worked as a Claims Specialist for the Social Security Administration at the Processing Center in downtown Kansas City, Missouri, and had completed a few weeks of training at the Social Security Field Office #779 in Lenexa, Kansas. In addition to her mother Lucy Mae Howard Ussery, Sylvia was also preceded in death by her beloved son Cameron Hooks, brother, Lloyd Ussery and her half-brother Harry Williams. Sylvia leaves to cherish memories, two sons, Ojah Vasser, Jr. and Christian J. Hooks, and her former husband Creston Lamart Hooks. Sylvia also leaves six brothers, Willie (Sompong) Ussery, of Tallahassee, FL., Robert (Lisa) Ussery of Fuquay Varina, N.C., Floyd (Vanessa) Ussery of Woodstock, Ga., Ted Ussery of Hickory, N.C., Kenneth (Melinda) Ussery of Hickory, N.C., and Randy Ussery of Hickory N.C., and four sisters, Priscilla Ussery Wilfong of Hickory N.C., Lucy Irene Pegram of Detroit, Mi., Peggy Ussery Gilliam of Hickory, N.C., and Mary Ussery of Charlotte, N.C., and a half-sister, Lorene Haggins of Hickory, N.C. She also leaves to cherish everlasting memories a host of nieces, nephews as well as great-nieces and great-nephews, and her loving dog Roxie, who she loved dearly. Sylvia will also be cherished forever by her special friend Sergio Martinho. A memorial service will be held on Saturday September 7, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Morningstar First Baptist Church.
