Shirley Kraus 91, formerly of South Elgin, IL, passed away September 21st at Cornerstone Mike Conley Hospice House in Clermont, Florida. She was born on November 26, 1927 in Burlington, WI to Rudolph and Ellen Clauer. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Fred and her brother Harold Clauer. She is survived by her loving companion of 32 years, Jim Atherton, son Ronald Kraus (Jeanette), daughter Renee Panarese (Michael), 3 grandchildren, Jeff Kraus, Cory Kraus (Ashlee), Jennifer Favitta (Thomas), step-granddaughter Loren (Orestes) and great-grandson Callen. She retired from Elgin State Hospital after 26 years and has been a resident of Kissimmee, Florida since 1997. She loved cooking, playing piano and organ, knitting, reading and playing cards. Viewing will be at Laird Funeral Home, 310 South State Street, Elgin, IL 60123 and burial at Lakewood Memorial Park, 30W730 Hwy 20, Elgin, IL 60120. In lieu of flowers, donations in Shirley’s name to Cornerstone Hospice Foundation, c/o Mike Conley Hospice House, 2445 Lane Park Road, Tavares, FL 32778, would be greatly appreciated by the family.
