Ruth Margaret Zimmerman November 05, 1918 – February 04, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers View/Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card| Memorial Donation Ruth Margaret Zimmerman, 100 years young, passed away peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus on Feb 4, 2019, in Ashland, Wisconsin. She was born November 5, 1918, in Mellen, WI, the daughter of William J. and Beatrice (Reid) Fochs. After graduating from Mellen High School in 1936, she worked as a secretary for the Kiel Woodenware Company and Penokee Veneer Co. where she met her future husband, Carl Hans Zimmerman. They were married on June 14, 1941, in Mellen. Their marriage was a continual romance filled with music and many slow dances in their living room! Her heart was broken when Carl passed on June 23, 1973, but she continued their commitment to their 3 children and extended family. She was a wonderful, faithful mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great- grandmother. Besides serving her family, she loved her Mellen community where she was a member of the library board and historical society, the Red Hats Club, and several card clubs. After moving to assisted living in Ashland in 2007, the highlight of her week was receiving the Mellen Weekly Record newspaper. Her family was her pride and joy and her love for them was deep and wide. We will miss her, but have wonderful memories of her stories, laughter, smiles, and hugs! “Ruthie was a spark. She was a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and she loved everyone who knew her and everyone who knew her loved her too. She was a fire-cracker yet sweeter than honey. She was a gamer, a bridge junkie, & the queen of Yahtzee. She always had her wits about her and knew every detail of your life, and none can compare” (Anna Zimmerman, granddaughter-in-law). Ruth is survived by her daughter, Judy (Arthur) Woodward of Whispering Pines, NC, sons Tom (Carol) Zimmerman of Knoxville, TN, and Bill (Carol) Zimmerman of Chaska, MN; 6 grandsons, Brendan and Collin Woodward, Carl and Joel Zimmerman, Andrew and Jordan Zimmerman; 12 great-grandsons, and 2 great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister, Jane, and grandson, John. A Memorial Service for Ruth will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 21, 2019 at the Mountain Funeral Home in Mellen, WI. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Mountain Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Ashland and Mellen, WI.
