Roger Rankin Dobbs November 06, 1948 – September 19, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers View/Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Roger Rankin Dobbs, 70, of Indianola, died Thursday, September 19, 2019 in Oklahoma City. The family will greet friends from 2:00 to 4:00 Sunday, September 22, 2019 at Bishop Funeral Service. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 23, 2019 at North Mt. Homa Church in Ulan officiated by Rev. Gerald Kerns and Rev. Rick Kerns. Burial will follow in Ulan Cemetery with military honors provided by the Robert B. Thomas VFW Post #1098. Pallbearers will be Shannon Dobbs, Shane Dobbs, Zach Lewis, and Hayden Lewis. Honorary pallbearers will be Raymond Cox, Dwight Kearns, Gerald Kearns, Thurella Kearns, and Tim Bryan. Roger was born to Albert and Mertie (Coffee) Dobbs on November 6, 1948 in Cooperative, Kentucky. He graduated high school in Whitley City then joined the U.S. Army. He retired from the U.S. Army and worked as a security guard at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal in Commerce City, Colorado for over 30 years. After his retirement, he moved from Commerce City to Indianola where he has resided the past 20 years. Roger married Ruth Ann Heald on October 30, 1970 in Petersburg, Virginia. He attended North Mt. Homa Church in Ulan. Roger was an accomplished musician and enjoyed playing the banjo. He entertained residents of McAlester area nursing homes by playing the banjo for them. He also was a skilled luthier and built acoustic and electric guitars. Roger was preceded in death by his parents: Albert and Mertie Dobbs; brothers: Veck Dobbs, Clinton Dobbs; and sister: Jewell Dobbs. He is survived by his wife: Ruthie of the home; sons: Shannon Dee Dobbs and wife, Rachel of Oklahoma City, Shane Dobbs of Indianola; daughter: Monica Dahl and husband, Erik of Loveland, Colorado; grandchildren: Lukas Dahl and Peyton Dahl, both of Loveland, Colorado. Also brother: Harold Dobbs of Muncy, Indiana; sister: Clara Koger of Whitley City, Kentucky; brother-in-law: John Heald and wife, Peggy of Westminster, Colorado; sister-in-law: Jayne Hearld of Indianola; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.
