He was united in marriage to Shirley (McQueen) Thurmond who preceded him in death. He is survived by his children; Randy Thurmond, Paul Thurmond, and Eric Thurmond all of London, Kentucky, by his brother of David Carl Thurmond of Milford, Ohio, by his grandchildren; Kimberly Valentour, Lance Valentour, Trenton Thurmond, Tate Thurmond, Abigail Thurmond, Braxton Bruner, and by his great-grandchildren; Braden Hoskins and Lexi Hoskins. In addition to his parents and spouse, he was preceded in death by one son, Perry Valentour, and by one brother, Robert Gene Thurmond. He was a retired construction worker and of the Baptist faith. Richard Clay Thurmond departed this life on Saturday, September 28, 2019 being 70 years, 4 months, and 27 days of age. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to Bowling Funeral Home toward funeral expense.
