October 4 1947 September 14 2019
It is with great sadness we announce that Richard “Dick” Allen Marlow of Poland, IN has passed away at the age of 71, at home surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, September 14th, 2019. Richard was born in Terre Haute, IN on October 4th, 1947 to George Byers & Margaret Lucille (Garred) Marlow. His family eventually moved to Indianapolis and after graduating George Washington High School, Richard served his country with the United States Marine Corps including a tour in Vietnam (1967-1968) with the 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines. Upon returning home, Richard spent his working years with Business Furniture Corporation, R.A.M. Custom Woodworking, Richeson Cabinets & G.Marlow & Associates. Richard was known for being a skilled craftsman and could often be found at home in his extensive workshop putting together the latest woodworking project, restoring his custom hot rods or keeping his beloved corvettes tuned up, shined up & ready to roll. He was a regular at his annual Marine Corp reunions recalling old stories and supporting his fellow veteran Marines. Richard had a wonderful sense of adventure, enjoyed travelling cross-country to new destinations or across town for drop-in visits with old friends or just a simple bargain hunting run to a local pawn shop or his favorite Menards. He could always be counted on to have a good time, whether it was socializing and dancing at family functions, belting out his favorite tunes at karaoke nights or boating days tubing at the lake but it was spending quality time being surrounded by his family that brought him his greatest joy. Richard was a loving husband, devoted father, loyal brother & faithful friend who was always there without hesitation to happily extend his helping hand. His love for people, kind heart, warm smile & wonderful sense of humor has forever touched our lives. He will be sadly missed and remembered forever. Richard is survived by his wife Jackie Marlow and children Brian Marlow (Brandy) of Indianapolis, Jennifer Marlow (Troy Williams) of Fishers, Susan Walls & Daniel Walls both of Indianapolis, Nathan Young of Madison, IN & Anthony Thompson (Emailee) of Columbus, IN and grandchildren Nick Barrett, Shawn Reed (Gabi), Hunter Marlow, Everett Williams and Claire & Emma Walls. Richard is also survived by siblings George Marlow (Joyce) of Indianapolis, Paul Marlow (Linda) of Fishers, Gloria Phillips (Dean) of Arlington, TX, special family Julian & Marsha Vaughn of Poland, IN & special friend Rick Sylvester (Glenna) of New Smyrna Beach, FL as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Richard was preceded in death by his father & mother and wife Gail Lynn Bauer Marlow. Special thank you to Karen Rogers & the team at Intrepid Hospice for their care, compassion and support during his final days. Richard is resting at Forest Lawn Funeral Home & Memory Gardens located at 1977 S State Rd 135, Greenwood, IN 46143 with visitation on Thursday September 19th, 2019 from 4-8 pm.
