The daughter of Edward and Lillie Bell Woods, Peggy was the oldest of four siblings, Eddie, Elizabeth, and Edward Jr. She attended Dunbar High School, graduating in 1959. She entered matrimony with Scott Hunter on May 15, 1961. From this union came three sons: Christopher, Stanford, and David. After completing a year of pre-nursing studies at Lake Michigan College in 1960, Peggy entered the Dayton School of Practical Nursing, graduating in 1963 to become a licensed practical nurse (LPN). She began a career in nursing, working at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio from 1963 to 1968. She moved on from hospital work to private practice with a number of doctors: Dr. Malachi Sloan, from 1967 to 1969, Dr. Reginald Daniel, from 1970 to 1982, and Drs. J.E. Cromartie and H.M. Mobley, from 1983 to 1985, and Dr. Durado Brooks. Her career took her to work at the Dr. Charles R. Drew Health Center, also in Dayton, from 1986 to 2005. Peggy was a long-time member of Bethel Baptist Church in Dayton, where she participated in annual Women’s Day activities as well as becoming a member of the Nurses Corps of the church. After retiring from nursing in 2006, Peggy and Scott moved to Justin, Texas, where they joined Bethel Bible Fellowship of Carrollton, Texas. She volunteered as an usher and greeter for the church. Peggy loved 1970s music, with the Commodores being her favorite group. She was an avid football fan, often engaging her husband in discussions about her beloved Pittsburgh Steelers, as well as working hand in hand with her husband to ‘teach’ their sons the finer points of dominos. Peggy enjoyed her position as the only female in a house full of males. She was a loving wife and wonderful mother. She enjoyed shopping for clothing, especially shoes and purses, and was an immaculate dresser, making sure that all the men in the house were also well-dressed. She is survived by her husband, Scott; sons, Christopher (Pamela), Stanford (Nita) and David; grandchildren, Savannah and Cyrus as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family members and family friends who adopted her as a second mom or grandmother. We love you wife and mother. Rest well in the arms of the Lord. There will be a Viewing/Visitation starting at 11:00 am on Monday, Spetember 30, 2019 at Bethel Bible Fellowship, 1944 E. Hebron Parkway, Carrollton, Texas. Her Funeral Service will begin at Noon with a reception to follow. Peggy will be laid to rest in Highland Memorial Gardens in Bessemer, Alabama at Noon on Saturday, October 4, 2019. ‘Let not your heart be troubled: Ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: If it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye also’.
