Mary V McGuinness Bissonnette 2019

2019
Virginia Bissonnette, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend took her last breath on Friday, September 20, 2019 after a long battle with dementia and breast cancer. God finally made official what we have known all along, that she was an angel that we were simply lucky enough to know. Virginia was born in Taunton to the late Joseph and Margaret Mary (nee Brady) McGuinness. She was the adored sister of Anne Reilly, (late) Jack McGuinness, (late) Kaye Hutchinson, (late) Betty Smith and Bill McGuinness. Virginia attended Taunton public schools. When her family moved west to California, Virginia stayed behind in Massachusetts. When she was eighteen she married the love of her life, Lloyd Bissonnette. Together they had six children Alan, Loretta, Donald, Paula, Daniel and the (late) Little Lloyd. They raised their children in Lakeville, MA where they attended St. Martha and Mary Catholic Church. To Virginia’s delight, she was able to watch her family grow over the past seventy-four years– adding sons and daughters in-law, thirteen grand-children, twenty-nine great-grandchildren and was excited to become a great-great grandmother in April of 2020. The joy that children brought her was undeniable and she had a special magic about her that always made you feel loved. She always greeted you with a smile, left you with a hug and a kiss and tried to feed you something in between. At some point she told every grandchild and great-grandchild they were her favorite and we all believed her. Virginia worked at Alden Shoe, making work boots for police officers, where she retired at eighty-five. In her free time Virginia loved to crochet and knit, creating cherished gifts for family. She also enjoyed jig-saw puzzles and even let people help her finish them later in life. She bowled at the local bowling alley and loved playing bingo with her dear friend Shirley. She enjoyed traveling to Florida during the winter and to California to visit her family. She also enjoyed their camp in Maine and hunting with her husband. She was a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox and nothing took precedence on the television if the ball game was on. She kept chickens, goldfish and even learned to tolerate, dare even love their little dog Benji, who would wait patiently for her to come home from work every day. Dogs are the best judge of character after all, and she truly was the best. Virginia is survived by her dear husband Lloyd, her children Alan and his wife Patricia, Loretta and her husband Rod, Donald and his wife Betty, Paula and her husband Bill, and Danny and his wife Patti, her thirteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren, her sister Anne and her brother Bill. She was a beloved “Aunt Gin” to many nieces and nephews and was a friend to all. The family would like to give special thanks to the Hannah B.G. Shaw Home for the love and care that was given to Mary. At the Family’s request all services are private In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to the Hannah BG Shaw Home, 299 Wareham Street, Middleboro MA 02346.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Mary V McGuinness Bissonnette 2019.
