The Bushnell’s were evacuated from Beirut during its Civil War by the US Navy and Marines. After the evacuation, the young Bushnell family time was spent at her paternal grandparents’ farm in Holdrege, Nebraska. Lynette could regularly be found in the barn, in the hay, cuddling and snoozing with calves. The young family grew while in Nebraska with the births of Ronny and Sheila. Eventually, the Bushnell’s went to Cairo, Egypt where young John was born. Lynette was nine years old when she attended The American International School Cairo American College from 1960-1965 and the American International School in New Delhi, India from 1965-1970. Finally settling in back in the states, Lynette graduated from Fort Hunt High School in Alexandria, Virginia. A few years after graduation, Lyndy attended Mary Mount University earning her RN. BSN degree. Lyndy and sisters, Marsha and Sheila loved to do the Hula dance. In fact, they would regularly dance the hula for the Hawaii State Society of Washington, DC for many years. After Lynette’s husband, died in 2007 Lynette and son Ron, moved to Wilmington, NC to make a new start. In 2013 after Ron Graduated from Ashley High School and joined the AmeriCorps, Lynette briefly moved to California before returning back to Wilmington in 2015. Eager to live life to the fullest, Lynette began to volunteer with several organizations when she could. Mainly the Pink Heals of the Cape Fear, the American Cancer Society, and Women of Hope. After joining the Livestrong program with the YMCA, Lynette regularly attended exercise classes after graduating from the program. This lead to her volunteering at the Y as well. Always being a spiritual being, Lynette sought out a church to be spiritually feed. She found her church home at Unity of Wilmington where she instantly made many friends, and had a church family whom she grew to love very much as they loved her. Unity was a gift to her. Some of her favorite things were reading, coloring, music, meditation, time with the “Stew Crew” dinning out, playing cards, talking, and day trips, and participating in Charity Walks to support other cancer patients. Known by many names, “Lyndy” “Carrot”, and “Edna”. In addition, she was known as Wife, Mom, Sister, Grandma, Aunt, friend, and teacher. To know Lyndy was to love her. Lyndy was a teacher of grace and gratitude. You will never know such a thankful person in your life. Regardless, of what was given to her, a glass of water, or something much larger, you knew she appreciated the deed. A giver of her time, spirit, ear and the best hugs. You always felt loved after being around her. Lynette instantly wanted to be your friend, as she never did met a stranger; always eager to learn about you and to share her experience of wisdom and life. When you were around her, you knew you were around one of the most tender, affectionate, kindhearted individuals God had ever placed on the earth. These type of souls are not meant to roam the earth for too long. God needs them more in heaven to watch out for all of us down here. And He definitely needed our sweet Lyndy. We will always miss her in our lives. A private service will be held on Sept 13, 2019 for her family and close friends.
