Leilla Rose Dougherty, age 79, a lifetime Lapeer area resident, died Wednesday, September 4, 2019. Lee was born October 25, 1939 in Detroit, to Edward and Millie (Johnson) Hunter. Lee graduated in 1958 from Dryden High School and married William Dougherty on October 7, 1961 at Grace Episcopal Church in Lapeer. Mrs. Dougherty enjoyed planting flowers, working in her garden, playing cards and visiting the casino. She took joy in cooking, baking and canning for her family and friends…she was a wonderful cook. Above all Lee loved spending time with family and friends… whether it was celebrating a family birthday or a casual get together with friends Lee made it special. Mrs. Dougherty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Mrs. Dougherty is survived by her husband: Bill Dougherty of Lapeer; children: Steven (Sheryl) Dougherty of Lapeer, Leslie (Michael) Clements of Lake Orion and Edward (Debbie) Dougherty of Lapeer; grandchildren: Lindsey (Doug) Taylor, Eric Dougherty, Brandon Clements, Courtney Clements, Kaden Dougherty and Alexis Dougherty; sister-in-law: Beverly Hunter of Almont; and many dear brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her son: Billy Dougherty; parents: Edward and Millie Hunter and brother: Richard Hunter. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lapeer American Post #16 Honor Guard, 1701 W. Genesee St., Lapeer, MI 48446. Visitation will be Noon-4PM Sunday, September 8, 2019, at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Lapeer. Lee’s funeral service will be 11:00AM Monday, September 9, 2019, at the funeral home. The family will also receive friends 10-11AM Monday prior to the service. Mrs. Dougherty’s funeral service will be followed immediately by a luncheon at the Lapeer American Legion Post #16.
