Kenneth Verne Gaug December 21, 1950 – September 02, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook Kenneth Verne Gaug Jr. was born on December 21, 1950 to Kenneth Verne Gaug Sr. and Viola A. (Meyer) Gaug. He later became the big brother of his sisters: Mary, Sandy, and Vickie and they referred to him as “Bub.” The family resided in Harper and this is where Kenny went to elementary and high school, graduating with the Harper High School class of 1968. Kenny was given a football scholarship to attend Pratt Community College. After his first year, he decided to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in November of 1969. He spent approximately a year and a half in the Vietnam War. Kenny was honorably discharged in May of 1972. Returning to Harper, Kenny started his construction business and worked as a carpenter for several years. He also helped on the farm and with raising cattle. His favorite part of farm life was hauling hay. With his health beginning to decline, he retired in May of 2018. Kenny was proud of his service to the country. He was a member of Harper American Legion, Jeff Long Post #104 and Harper VFW Post 11449. His favorite haunt was the Copper Lounge where he was a beloved patron. Preceding Kenny in death are his parents. He will be missed by his three sisters: Mary Gaug of Harper, Sandy Sander of Strasburg, Missouri, and Vickie Batt of Hoisington, Kansas; his nieces and nephews: JD Sander and wife, Nikki, Lora Johnson and husband, Josh, Chris Batt and wife, Justice, and Cody Batt and wife, Mallory; other relatives and many friends. Honoring Kenny’s final wishes, he was cremated and no services will be held. Friends and family will memorialize him in their own ways. Prairie Rose Funeral Home, 613 W 14th ~ Harper, Kansas 67058 is assisting the family with arrangements.
