Kathllen “Kathy”‘s Obituary Kathleen “Kathy” C. Deschaine 78 of Marinette passed away on Monday, September 23, 2019, at Aurora Baycare in Green Bay. She was born on September 9, 1941, to the late Alfred and Catherine (Vanderfin) LaCombe in Menominee. She attended all 12 years of schooling at Our Lady of Lourdes and was proud to be a graduate of the first graduating class of Marinette Catholic Central in 1959, mostly being taught by the Notre Dame nuns. On October 17, 1959, Kathy married Robert “Bob” Deschaine at Sacred Heart Church in Marinette; he preceded her in death on January 21, 2014. Kathy opened her home for 24 years to many children for an in home daycare, including many of her grandchildren. She loved to be known as “just another Avon lady” which she sold for 35 years. She also enjoyed working the election polls in Marinette, but she took the most pride in attending sporting events, recitals, and concerts that her children and grandchildren were a part of. She loved volunteering and helping her community and church in such activities at the former St. Anthony’s Catholic Church by: cleaning, preparing altar flowers, chairing church carnivals, working Bingo, running the hot meal service, member of the worship and altar society. When the parishes consolidated she continued to be involved at Holy Family Parish with decorating for the salad luncheon, altar society member, and was excited to be able to provide a gift to raffle off at the monthly altar society meetings that helped provide Christmas for a local family. Kathy had a generous heart and it showed with her volunteering with Marinette Catholic Central’s Octoberfest, auction, school board member, organized the first rummage sales, worked the fish fries, and organized summer dances, who can forget her chaperoning. She loved getting together with her former classmates to reminisce and was happy to be able to attend her 60th class reunion this past summer. At one point the telephone company asked her to put in more lines in her home because of her “gift of gab”. She resided at Northland Village, and loved to tell jokes, laugh, enjoy time with family and was blessed with many friends that loved her like family, who showed it by taking her to countless doctor appointments, bringing food, calling to check on her and keeping her in thought and prayer. She loved and treasured the friendship. Kathy is survived by her children: Robert (Chris Desotell) Deschaine Jr. of Marinette, Lynnette (Richard) Ahrens of Peshtigo, and Nicholas (Mattie) Deschaine of Peshtigo ; ten grandchildren: Kraig (Julie) Deschaine, Keith (Mandy) Deschaine, Kurt Deschaine, Mitchell and Bethany Ahrens, Abby and Caleb Poquette, Alexzander, Landen, and Braelynn Deschaine; ten great grandchildren: Nathan, Kaylee, Natalie, Kaitlyn, Macie, Easton, Bailey, Bella, Gracelyn, and Eli; sister, Sue (Chet) Closson; sister in law, Judy Lindbom both of Marinette; nephews: Chad, Bradely, and Travis (Tracy) Pristelski; and niece, Christine (Robert) Bettenhausen. In addition to her parents and husband, Bob of 55 years, she was preceded in death by her step mother, Marcella; step brothers, Robert (Naomi) Lindbom and David Lindbom; brothers in law, Ron (Maryann) Deschaine and Ronald Pristelski. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 27th from 2-5pm at Holy Family Parish – Our Lady of Lourdes Church 2715 Taylor St in Marinette. A Funeral Mass will be held at 5pm with Fr. Celestine Byekwaso and Fr. John Bergstadt, a classmate of hers, concelebrating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery. Read More
