Katherine Moates Elkins, 92, of Athens, died Monday, June 17, 2019 at Life Care Center of Athens. She was a lifelong resident of McMinn County and was a daughter of the late James L. and Nena Browder Moats. She was also preceded in death by her husband Cletus Leonard Elkins, and brothers , Dan and Joe Moates. She was a member of East Athens Baptist Church and served as secretary in the McMinn County Election Commission office for several years. She is survived by one daughter, Lisa E. Lee of Riceville; one son and daughter-in-law, Mitch and Janie Elkins of Athens; two granddaughters, Brittany Yancey and Katie Lee; two grandsons, Ryan Elkins and Seth Lee; four great-grandchildren; and one brother James Moats of Johnson City, TN. A graveside service will be conducted, 11:00 am, Thursday, June 20, 2019 at McMinn Memory Gardens with Rev. Jason Patterson officiating. There will be no formal visitation. Pallbearers will be Brian Rozwood, Todd Ford, Seth Lee, Ryan Elkins, Cole Yancey, and Brian Ford. The family suggests memorials be made in Katherine’s honor to Alzheimer’s Association, NE/SE TN Chapter, 7625 Hamilton Park Drive Suite 22, Chattanooga, TN 37421.
