Janet Lee Hinds passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer. Jan was born June 14, 1940 in Los Angeles, California to Peggy and Otto Hildebrand. Growing up a “Navy Brat”, Jan lived in many places from Texas to Japan. Her family settled in Yucaipa, California where she graduated from Redlands High School in 1959. After high school, Jan attended San Bernardino Valley College. Jan was hired by Space Technology Laboratories, where she worked in an administrative position for the Atlas/Titan Weapons Program at Norton Air Force Base located in San Bernardino County. Jan loved this job, and it was one of her most memorable experiences. In 1962, Jan met Joseph Hinds at the San Diego Airport, through mutual friends. They married in 1965, and moved to Escondido, California. In 1970, Joe and Jan started their family with the birth of their daughter Kelly Lynn and their son Timothy John in 1973. Jan was completely devoted to her children and especially loved when she became a “Nana” to her two beautiful granddaughters. Jan will always be remembered for her beautiful smile and kindness. Jan was an exceptional Wife, Mother, Aunt and Nana. Even though Jan was soft-spoken, she had an adventurous spirit. In her twenties, she loved going to the river and was an incredible slalom water skier. Jan also found it a thrill to skydive, and jumped out of a perfectly good airplane, twice. Jan loved spending time with her friends, and her water aerobic class. Jan’s family would like to give special thanks to Patty, Connie, Barb, Kami, Dana, Les and Jan’s wonderful caregivers Lori and Linda for all their love and support through this difficult time. Jan was preceded in death by her sister Sandee Ritter and her brother John Watson. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Joe Hinds; her children Kelly (Tony) Caso and Tim Hinds; two granddaughters Deora and Devin Woodward; numerous nieces and nephews and not to be forgotten her faithful dog Cooper. A Celebration of Life of Jan’s life will be held at 11 am on September 14, 2019 at the Cross Connection Church 1675 Seven Oakes Rd Escondido, California. A reception will immediately follow. Casual attire please. In lieu of flowers, her family respectfully requests to please make a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project and/or the San Diego Humane Society, two organizations Jan always supported.
