George Edwards July 02, 1948 – September 14, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers View/Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card| Memorial Donation George Edwards, of Gorum, La., passed away at Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital on September 14, 2019, after battling numerous illnesses. He was 71. He was a Sergeant in Vietnam from April 1968 to March 1971. He was wounded in combat and received the Purple Heart. He spent most of his working career Offshore as a supervisor and crane operator. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. His passion was playing his guitar and harmonica. He was very gifted in music and played at countless functions throughout his life. It was not uncommon to go to his home and find him strumming a few tunes. He will be most remembered for his musical talent and comical way of telling stories. He was preceded in death by his parents Coatie and Eloise Edwards of Gorum; son, Michael Edwards of Gorum; brother, Jimmy Edwards of Gorum; sister, Kathy Collard and husband Robert of Hawaii. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 50 years, Linda S. Edwards of Gorum; daughters, Lisa Edwards of Lafayette: Patty Edwards of Chopin (husband Chris DuBois); Tammye Edwards of Gorum; and Nikki Edwards of Robeline; one son, Eric Edwards of Gorum; five sisters, Linda Bynog of Cloutierville (husband Earl); Delores Edwards of Pineville; Janet Dale of Colfax (husband Larry); Arlene Kerby of Coushatta (husband Larry); Annette Mangel (husband Steve); seven grandchildren, Blake, Amber, Colby, Alex, Hailey, Waylen, and Einon; one great-granddaughter, Saydi; and many other family and friends. He will be deeply missed. Special Thanks to his niece, Darlene Edwards of Gorum for her loving care and support during his time of need. A service to honor his life will be held at 1 pm on Sunday, September 22, 2019, at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches with military honors to conclude the service. The family will receive friends from 10 am until service time at Blanchard-St. Denis on the 22nd. Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Colby Edwards, Eric Edwards, Alex Dubois, Blake Dubois, Darlene Edwards, and Donald Steinborn.
