Frances M. Snabb, age 85, of South Haven, died Monday, September 16, 2019 at her home on Moose Lake in South Haven. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Annandale with Rev. David Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Cemetery in French Lake. Visitation will be held 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel and one hour prior to the funeral on Wednesday, at the church. Frances Mayme Snabb was born February 5, 1934 at home in New York Mills to Charles and Esther (Carlund) Niemela. She grew up speaking Finnish and did not learn English until attending school at the age of 8. On October 4, 1952, she was united in marriage to Clifford Snabb in Minneapolis. In addition to raising her family and caring for the home, Frances worked numerous jobs including 20 years at Leef Brothers. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Annandale. Frances had a great eye for decorating and could grow anything. She was fiercely independent, to the point of moving back to her home on Moose Lake at the age of 85 after learning that she had terminal cancer. Frances enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting, feeding birds and wildlife, and spending time with Mother Nature. She is survived by her daughter and sons, Peggy Bodell of Annandale, Brian (Sally) Snabb of Carver and Gregg Snabb of Clearwater; seven grandchildren, Joshua, Nicholas, Jennie, Matthew, David, Hannah and Clifford; ten great grandchildren; brothers and sister, Edwin Niemela of Harris, Raymond Niemela of the Phillipines and Anna (George) Becker of Aitken; and sister-in-law, Norma Niemela of Minneapolis. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Esther Niemela; husband; Clifford Snabb; great grandson, Bradley Bodell; sisters, Violet Bentilla, Eleanor Daines, Ruth Randall and Pearl Snabb; and brothers, John, Arnold and Howard Niemela. Orma Lou Jacobsma will provide the music for the service. Arrangements are entrusted with Dingmann Funeral Care Burial & Cremation Services of Annandale.
