Evelyn R. Auchey, 95, of Hanover passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family. Born on Tuesday, June 10, 1924 in Hanover, she was a daughter of the late Fern Melvin and Annie Eliza Regal Garrett, and wife of the late Harry S. Auchey, who died in 1994. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Epley, five siblings, a son-in-law, Austin “Abe” Mills, and a daughter-in-law, Barbara Auchey. A member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Evelyn worked as a cook at South Western High School for more than 30 years before her retirement in 1993. She was a great cook who enjoyed cross stitching, crocheting, and doing jigsaw puzzles. Survivors include four sons, Jack A. Auchey, of Hanover, Jay M. Auchey and his wife, Donna, of Glenville, Jan M. Auchey and his wife, Linda, of East Berlin, and Jed D. Auchey and his wife, Michelle, of Hanover; two daughters, Christine L. Mills of Hanover and Barbara A. Bond and her husband, William, of McSherrystown; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Sarah Winters of McSherrystown; and a son-in-law, Robert Epley of Hanover. Services for Mrs. Auchey will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1004 N. Juniata Street, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.
