Edward Paul Keenan 5/25/1925 – 9/23/2019 Edward P. Keenan of Branford passed away peacefully at Connecticut Hospice of Branford on Monday September 23, 2019 to join his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was the beloved husband of the late Ann Raymond Keenan for over 70 years. Ed was born in New Haven May 25, 1925, son of the late Lucy McGowan Keenan and Francis E. Keenan, the fourth of 10 children (5 boys and 5 girls). Ed leaves behind his sister Alice Hughes of NY, and brother Michael Keenan of Derby; his son, Russell E. Keenan and wife, Donna, of Cape Elizabeth, Maine; his daughter, Deborah K. Stokes and husband, Richard, of Branford, CT; his grandchildren, Jennifer (Paul) Harrell, Scott (Sarah) Keenan, Adam (Corinne) Stokes, Emily (Matthew) Sczepanski, Meaghan E. Stokes, and Cheryl (Seth) Whiting; three great-granddaughters, Ellie and Fiona Harrell, Josephine Whiting, and a baby Sczepanski expected in December. Ed grew up in West Haven, and graduated from West Haven High School in 1943. He entered the US Air Corp as an Aviation Cadet in August of 1943. He served as a B-24 Liberator crewmember in the 15th Air Force, 450th Bomb Group, 720th Squadron. He flew 25 missions while stationed in Manduria, Italy. He finished his tour of duty in May of 1945. On September 25, 1948 he married the love of his life, Ann Raymond. Their 70-year marriage was a beautiful testament of love and commitment. Before his retirement in April of 1984, Ed worked for the UpJohn Company as a department head, making chemicals for the film industry, pharmaceuticals, and specialty products. Ed and Ann were outstanding dancers, and avid fans of UCONN women’s basketball. Ed enjoyed blue grass music, wood working, and was a master gardener and blueberry grower. He was well known for giving away bags of fresh garden vegetables after church services during the harvest season. Ed and Ann poured their time and energy into teaching and supporting their children. Ed volunteered for 10 years in the Boy Scouts of America, and was Scoutmaster of Troop 424 at St. Mary Parish for 8 years. The whole family enjoyed summer vacations at BSA Camp Sequassen. Ed so loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, taking great delight in all of their accomplishments. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with them. He will be greatly missed by his family and many, many friends. The family will greet visitors from 8:00-9:00 AM at W. S. Clancy Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford, prior to the service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Church of St. John Bosco Parish, 731 Main Street, Branford on September 28, 2019 at 9:30 AM. Interment will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery.
