Doris Gable Powell, 87, of Abbeville, wife of the late Horace H. Powell, died Saturday, September 14, 2019 at her residence. She was born in Abbeville to the late Johnny Harmon and Laura Clark Gable. Mrs. Powell was employed by Milliken & Co, retiring after more than 40 years of loyal service. Her creative ability was often expressed by glazing and firing ceramics at the Abbeville Civic Center. Traveling and spending time with family brought happiness. Her grandchildren were especially loved. Mrs. Powell was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Dean Gable and Wallace Neal Gable. Mrs. Powell is survived by a son, Mike E. Powell (Brenda) and daughter, Carolyn P. Little all of Abbeville; five grandchildren, Michelle Jackson (Bobby), Chad Powell (Stacia), Ivy Steepy (Mike), Daniel Little (Sarah) and Kayla Branham (Chris); nine great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Geraldine Gable of Abbeville. The family will receive friends 10:00AM – 11:00AM, Monday, September 16, 2019 at Sharon United Methodist Church. Funeral services will begin at 11:30AM in the church sanctuary with Rev. Dr. Frank McCoy and Rev. Dan Fortney officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
