Donald Ray Humphries, 83, resident of Martha Franks Retirement Home, widower of Sheila M. Humphries passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at Laurens County Hospital. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late George Robert and Ruby Ferguson Humphries. He received his Associates Degree in Accounting from Piedmont Technical College and retired from Greenwood Mills. He loved gardening and animals, especially raising daylilies and bird watching. He was a Retired Master Sergeant in the US Air Force and a member of Laurel Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and was a member of the Senior Men’s Sunday School Class. Surviving are his children, George R. Humphries (Adea) of Beaufort, Sandra Blount (Linwood) of Rock Hill, Tammy Ellenburg (Fred), and Julie Bledsoe (Dwayne), both of Greenwood; ten grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren. In addition to his first wife, Sheila, he was preceded in death by his second wife, Meredith Humphries; daughter, Patricia Babcock; son, Donald Humphries, Jr.; and two grandchildren, Jessica Shelly and Ming Blount. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Rodgers officiating. Entombment, with military rites, will follow the service at Greenwood Memorial Gardens Chapel Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
