Donald R. James, 86, of Newton Falls, passed away on Friday, September 6, 2019, in St. Joseph Healthcare Center. Don was born the son of Arthur and Marion (Smith) James on August 30, 1933 in Mineral Ridge. Don earned an Associate Degree in Horticulture from Faulkner State University. Don proudly served our country in the US Navy. On August 21, 1958, at Newton Falls First Christian Church Don and LaVelma Moyer were united in marriage. He was employed as a heater helper at Copperweld Steel and also was a self-employed building contractor. Don was a member of the Newton Falls American Legion 236 and Hurricane Hunters. He enjoyed watching the Indians and OSU. In his spare time he also enjoyed gardening and playing cards. Cherished memories of Don will be carried on by his sons John (Shirley) MacNaughton of Agrigola, MS, James H. MacNaughton of Stow, Arthur R. James of Foley, AL, and Thomas P. James, Sr. of Stow, daughter Donna M. Ball of Newton Falls, brother Robert (Maggie) James of Newton Falls, sisters Patricia Rogers of Southington and Dianne (Wally) Wortman of Newton Falls, 18 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 2 great, great grandchildren. Preceding Don in death are his wife LaVelma who passed away July 11, 2012, brothers Arthur and William James, and sisters Mame Mileca, Betty Davis, and Shirl Bencze. A memorial service for Don will be held at the Newton Falls United Methodist Church at 11 AM, Wednesday, September 11.
