Dixie Coe Liner, 87, of Athens, passed away Wednesday night, June 26, 2019 at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga. Dixie was a native of Erlanger, Kentucky, a longtime resident of Athens, and was a daughter of the late George B. and Lois S. Coe. She was preceded in death by sister Lois Coe and brother Col. George B. Coe, Jr. Dixie was a member of Keith Memorial United Methodist Church of Athens, where she was the proud founder of the Nourish One Child Program, a Choir Member for 25 years, a Trustee, and served on the Administrative Board, Worship Committee, United Methodist Women, Staff Parish Committee, Long Range Planning Committee, Memorial Committee, and Nominating Committee. Dixie served on the following community committees: United Way Board of Directors, Coordinated Charities, Senior Citizens Board, Leadership McMinn Class of 1999, Athens Chamber of Commerce (Jimmy Liner Memorial Christmas Parade), Living Heritage Museum Guild, Athens/McMinn YMCA, Tri-County Board, CASA Board and the Athens City Schools Coordinated Health Committee. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and in the Athens City Schools. She was named the Athens Chamber of Commerce Mother of the Year 1991, Tennessee Mother of the Year 1991, and received the United Way Dick Dyer Award, Tennessee Wesleyan University Mary Mildred Sullivan Award, Tennessee Wesleyan University J. Neal Ensminger Distinguished Alumnus Award, Optimist Club of Athens George R. Price Award and City of Athens Vivid Award for Volunteer Work. Dixie was a graduate of McMinn County High School, Tennessee Wesleyan College (University), and Baroness Erlanger School of Nursing. She was formerly associated with Foree Hospital, Tennessee Wesleyan College, Tennessee Technological Univerity, Tennessee Department of Public Health and the Athens City School System as a Registered Nurse. Dixie is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Charles J. “Buddy” Liner of Athens; children and their spouses, Beverly L. and Terry Stansell, Nancy L. and Scott Cordell, Charles J. “Chuck” and Annette Liner and Christopher C. and LeAnn Liner; grandchildren and their spouses, Allison and Wayne Daniel, Aaron Stansell, Stephen and Shelby Stansell, Matthew and Sarah Cordell, Max Cordell, Madison Cordell, Hannah and Drew Patrick, Gabrielle Liner, Jason Melton, Hailey Melton, Mayson Liner, Emily Liner, Creed Liner and Ty Miller; 10 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Polly C. Liner, Barbara D. Parkinson and Jean D. Arrants; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 2, 2019, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Keith Memorial United Methodist Church.
