Wednesday July 24th 2019
Linwood, NY – Bruce Bragg, formerly of Fairport, NY, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 24, 2019 at the age of 86, as a result of his long battle with cancer. Bruce is predeceased by his parents, Lloyd W. & Marjorie Bragg; his sister Ann Redington; his brother-in-law Dr. D. A. Henderson, famously the Chief Administrator of the WHO program that eliminated Smallpox world wide the 1960s-70s. Bruce is survived by his wife Nancy L. I of 38 years, his sister Nana Henderson, his brother-in-law George Redington, his sons Lloyd P. (Mary), Roger Amburgey, his daughter Jeanine (Chris) Robbins, and his grandchildren: Jennifer (Bruce) Stewart , Kimberly Bragg, Stephen (Alexandria) Bragg , Kassidy Amburgey, Chelsea Prevost and Hannah & Jacob Robbins and, his great grandchildren: Robyn, Conner & Logan Stewart and Lucas Bragg. A Rochester native, Bruce was active in the Boy Scouts and the Central YMCA. As a young man, he attended East High School, Heidelberg College and RIT where he studied Engineering. Bruce then began working for Gleason Works, taking two years off to serve in the Army during the Korean Conflict. When he returned home, he worked in Engineering and Marketing at Gleason, ultimately specializing in aircraft, aerospace-oriented marketing and becoming the Regional Sales Manager until his eventual retirement after a successful, 42-year career. Throughout his life, Bruce was an avid golfer and huge sports fan, playing a variety of sports in school, in the Army and at Gleason. He often felt these taught him lessons of brotherhood and teamwork that colored the way he lived his life. Bruce deeply valued his relationships both with family and friends, many of which lasted a lifetime including his dear friend since childhood, Norm (Marathon Man) Frank. As an avid golfer, he was a member of the Clifton Springs Country Club for over 40 years. Even after Bruce could no longer play golf, you could still see him at home either driving up and down the driveway getting the mail, driving the grandkids or great-grandkids around the yard or even on warm summer nights down to a bonfire by the pond on his golf cart. Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life on Saturday, August 10 from 1 to 3 pm. We welcome you to share your memories of Bruce followed by a small service at 3 pm to be held at Alhart Funeral Home, Caledonia, NY. Interment will be held privately at a later date.
