Arthur L. Cooke, age 88 of Monroe, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at Brookdale Senior Living. Born April 21, 1931 in Monroe, Art was the son of the late William and Leah (Taft) Cooke. He married Mary E. Balkema on April 23, 1960 at First Presbyterian Church in Monroe. She preceded him in death on March 23, 2012. Arthur served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Cape Yacht Club. He earned a master’s degree and worked most of his life for First National Bank in Monroe. Art is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth “Betsy” (Steve) Swindeman of Petersburg and Catherine (Chris) O’Connell of Bay Village, OH; a brother, Bill (Jean) Cooke of Jackson, MI; two grandsons, Alec Swindeman of Greenville, SC and Spencer O’Connell of Bay Village, OH. In addition to his wife and parents, Art was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Lee Cooke. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the Junior Sailing Program c/o North Cape Yacht Club.
