William “Bill” Alvin Spencer of Rolla, Missouri passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2019 at the age of 89. He was born on July 12, 1929 in Rolla, Missouri to the late Houston and Cora (Maxwell) Spencer. Bill was born and raised in Rolla, Missouri. He was a 1947 graduate from Rolla High School; after graduation, he followed the wheat harvest through Kansas, worked for the Folgers Coffee Company in Kansas City for two years, then enlisted in the United States Navy. After proudly serving in the Korean War, Bill returned home to Rolla and married the love of his life, Wilda Eickhorst on April 4, 1954; this union was blessed with two children. Once home, he started work with Foremost Dairy Company in Rolla, Missouri. After nine years working for Foremost Dairy Company, he went to work for the United States Postal Service, where he would retire after twenty-six years of service. Bill enjoyed spending time outdoors doing farm work and fishing, watching St. Louis Cardinal baseball, playing the guitar in jam sessions and spending time with his family and friends. He was a loving husband, father and friend who will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him. Bill is survived by his loving wife of sixty-five years, Wilda Spencer of the home; children, William Spencer, Jr. of St. Elizabeth, MO and Beverly Spencer of Rolla, MO. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by three brothers, Louis, Floyd (Lucy) and Wallace (Louise) Spencer; one sister, Lois Ousley-Russow. Funeral services for Bill Spencer will be held at 1:00PM on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at the Roll Chapel of the James and Gahr Mortuary, Rolla, Missouri with Lloyd Heavin officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the service from 11:00AM until service time at 1:00PM also at the Rolla Chapel of the James and Gahr Mortuary, Rolla, Missouri. Interment will be held at the Pea Ridge Cemetery, Doolittle, Missouri with Full Military Honors. Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer’s Research. Cards are available at all James and Gahr locations.
