Virginia “Ginny” A. Basilio passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at Penn Medicine Hospice in West Chester. She was 69 years old. Ginny was born in Harrisburg on October 30, 1949 and was the daughter of the late J. Donald Stevens and the late Alma Kline Stevens. She was educated locally and graduated from Bishop McDevitt High School (Harrisburg), class of 1967. Ginny worked for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in the Welfare Department in Harrisburg and then after her marriage was employed at West Chester University in various departments before retiring in June of 2004 with over 36 years of dedicated service. Ginny was an active member of St. Patrick Church in Kennett Square, where she was the former head of the “Greeters Committee”. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, chatting on the phone with her family & friends, reading & word search puzzle books, going out for “girl’s nights out” and September trips to Cape May with her husband, Tony. Ginny was the beloved wife of Anthony “Tony” N. Basilio, Jr. with whom she shared 48 years of marriage; loving mother of Anthony N. Basilio, III and his wife Molly of Morgantown, PA and David J. Basilio and his wife Lisa of Lincoln University, PA; sister of Richard L Stevens of Reston, VA, Mary E. Fissel of Gettysburg, PA, Linda K. Basilio and her husband James A., of Swarthmore, PA and Donna Shaffer of Steelton, PA; grandmother of David J, Emily E., Mia E., and Avery N.. Also survived by two step-grandchildren, Mark and Kristen Rhodes and many nieces & nephews. A viewing will be on Thursday, September 5 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM and on Friday morning from 9:00AM until 10:30AM at the LONGWOOD FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION of MATTHEW GENEREUX, 913 East Baltimore Pike, Kennett Square. A Funeral Mass will be offered at 11:00AM on Friday, September 6, 2019 at St. PATRICK CATHOLIC CHURCH, 212 Meredith Street, Kennett Square. Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery. Ginny spent the last three years fighting cancer and wanted to thank her medical team at Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, MA and especially all the medical staff at Penn Medicine Abramson Cancer Center in Kennett Square. She also wanted to thank the wonderful people at Penn Medicine at Home Hospice for keeping her comfortable during her final days at home.
