Theodore J.’s Obituary Theodore J. Kowalyshyn, M.D., 83, of Stroudsburg, passed away Wednesday evening, August 14, 2019, while under hospice care at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono in East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of Mary Ann (West) Kowalyshyn with whom he shared 51 years of marriage. Born on December 12, 1935 in Northampton, he was a son of the late Stephen and Anna (Kuzik) Kowalyshyn. He served in the U.S. Army and graduated from Lehigh University as a Mining Engineer. Years later he attended Hahnemann Medical College in Philadelphia, where he was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He was board-certified in Internal Medicine and Hematology/Oncology and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. In 1972 Dr. Kowalyshyn moved to Monroe County and began his medical career with Medical Associates of Monroe County and then practiced Internal Medicine privately on Washington Street in East Stroudsburg. Later he was part of Bethlehem Steel Family Health Center and then the Lehigh Valley Network from where he retired. He was a member of A.O.P.A. (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association), National Ski Patrol at Shawnee Mountain, Henryville Fly Fishers, and Pocono Lively Arts. In addition to his wife, surviving are two sons, Alexander Kowalyshyn of Nazareth and Andrew Kowalyshyn and wife Heidi of Denver, CO; a granddaughter, Alana Kowalyshyn; three sisters, Olga Dorosh of Whitehall, Marianne Dworakivsky of Northampton and Kathryn Fedko of Washington; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three siblings; Russell Kowalyshyn, Stephen Kowalyshyn and Gloria Antonuk. Private services will be at the convenience of the family with burial in Keller’s Cherry Valley Cemetery. A public remembrance will take place at a later date.
