December 17 1967 July 31 2019 (age 51)
On Wednesday, July 31, 2019, at North Arundel Hospital, Robert Lee Aikens transisted for eternal peace. Robert was born in Washington, DC on December 17, 1967 to the late Mary Jean Fitzgerald and Sonny Aikens. He attended D.C. Public Schools and graduated from McKinley Tech High School in 1986. Robert worked many years with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority until his retirement. Everyone who knew him, knew that he was an avid Redskin fan! His basement was adorned in burgundy and gold with many Redskin paraphernalia. In fact, according to his neighbor, Mr. Stan, Robert was the “the last Redskin fan on the block.” Robert loved spending his days among family and friends. When it was time to pass on the duties of the reunion committee, Robert picked up the torch, serving as treasurer. He worked diligently, along side others, to provide a wonderful festivity for all. His last days were spent cruising with some of his cousins and fellow committee members. His boisterous laugh and bear hugs will be missed by all. Robert is survived by two brothers, Demetrius (Gretchen) Miller, Sr. and Anthony Aikens; four sisters, Chanel and Tanya Aikens, Phyllis Vernice George and Victoria Michelle Thomas; two children, Robin and Raymond Aikens, one grandchild, Hayden Aikens, three uncles, Wendell (Susan), Donnell and Timotheus (Patricia) Fitzgerald; two aunts, Jacqueline and Debbie Fitzgerald; and a host of other relatives and friends. A viewing will be held at Ambrose Funeral Home of Lansdowne, 2719 Hammonds Ferry Road, Halethorpe, MD 21227 on Friday, August 9 from 11am – 12pm with a funeral service beginning at 12pm. Interment will be private.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Robert Lee Aikens December 17 1967 July 31 2019 (age 51).
