Richard Myles Meredith, JR age 69, of Middletown, passed away August 21, 2019 at 12:05 AM. Born May 3, 1950 in Carsonville, PA, son of the late Richard and Dorothy (Wade) Meredith. “Dick” grew up in Linglestown the 2nd of four children. He enlisted in the Army, 173rd Airborne Brigade from 1968-1970. He was sent to Vietnam where he served on the front lines and as part of a 4-man stag team. Upon returning, he chose to work in the construction field as a concrete finisher and traveled the country, living in Indiana, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado Louisiana, Florida and Oklahoma before finally returning to his home state. His love was gardening, canning and cooking amazing food with recipes taught to him by his mother and beloved aunt, Geri. His daughter, Shannon, enjoys making these same recipes for her family and friends. Dick would share any and all of his meals & canned goods with family, friends, neighbors and even strangers. He adored his five granddaughters and one grandson; Corinna, Christopher, Alyssa, Caira, Jayna and Rayana and never hesitated to tell any and every one about their accomplishments. When Christopher was about 3 years old he would try to talk like his “Puppy” and Pappy just laughed and laughed. Surviving are his wife, Patricia of the home; daughter, Shannon Oberhauser and husband Tony of Oklahoma; daughter, Rebecca Eslinger and her husband Matthew of Harrisburg; sons, Ricky Snyder and Michael Snyder both of Lebanon; six grandchildren, Corinna, Christopher, Alyssa, Caira, Jayna and Rayana; siblings, Linda Smeal and her husband Lawton of Bainbridge, Jill Kope and her husband Fred of Three Springs and Garry Meredith of Harrisburg; also survived by four nieces, one nephew and many, many loved ones and friends. Dick is preceded in death by parents, Richard and Dorothy, one very special niece, Erica whom everyone called “Little Dick”, sister in law, Rita; and his life-long best friend Mark Troup. Memorial contributions may be made in Dick’s memory to Middletown VFW, Post 1620, 200 Pike Street, Middletown, PA 17057 or Pennsylvania Wounded Warriors, Inc, 1117 Country Club Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011.
