The Reverend Michael D Brooks, 76, of Newport went home to his Heavenly Father on Monday, August 12, 2019. He is predeceased by Sandra Carmichael Brooks, his beloved wife and helpmate of fifty years, his mother and father Harley and Nealy Brooks, his son in law, Tim, and great-nephew Cory Seals. He is survived by his daughter, Andrea Brooks, son Charles Brooks (Tiffany), and granddaughters Ella and Caitlin, brother Harley Brooks, nephews and nieces Rocky and Sheri Seals, Dana McReynolds (Jane), Stephanie McReynolds, and Virginia Murphy, along with numerous great nieces and nephews. Mike received his bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Lincoln Memorial University. He went on to teach and coach at Pruden High School, Whitesburg, and Parrottsville before receiving his call to service and becoming an ordained minister. He attended Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest and earned a Master of Divinity degree. Over the years, Mike expressed his commitment to Christ by serving as pastor at a number of churches, including Norwin Baptist, Maple Springs, Dumplin Valley, Witt, and Forest Hill. He also served for many years as Director of Missions for the East Tennessee Baptist Association. Mike’s greatest joy was serving God and spreading the good news of Jesus Christ. There are countless among us who have known him as a comforter, a minister, a teacher, a wise counselor, and a true friend. He well and truly was a good and faithful servant. We will meet to remember Michael Brooks on Saturday, August 24 at Swannsylvania Baptist Church, Dandridge, TN. Friends will be received from 4 to 6 p.m, and the funeral service will be at 6, with the Reverend Mike Hensley officiating.
