Randy’s Obituary Randy Bybee Brackin, much-loved friend, brother, and uncle, passed away Thursday, August 1, 2019 at his home in Bastrop. Born March 16, 1955 to Bette and Dee Brackin in San Antonio, Randy was perpetually kind, playful, clever, and loving. As a young man, he moved to San Francisco, where he stayed for almost thirty years before returning to Texas. In California, he found a community of friends and life he enjoyed. He worked as a cook in restaurants and later in schools, including in Bastrop, where he was close to his supportive colleagues. He loved making others happy, whether by a hot meal, a witty joke, or a reference to a classic film. He is preceded in death by his mother, Bette Norman; his stepfather, Bill; father, Dee Brackin; and sister, Debra Wardell. Randy is survived by his sister, Jill; and nieces and nephews, Nathan, Seth, Emily, Julie, and Andrew. His family has chosen to remember him by carrying his ashes back to San Francisco. Our own Steve McQueen has finally made his Great Escape, and we wish him Godspeed. Read More
