Ralph Emerson Newcomer, Jr. 95, of Moulton, Iowa passed away on July 23, 2019 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville, Iowa. He was born November 20, 1923 in Moulton to Ralph and Bessie Short Newcomer. He served in the U.S. Navy in 1944. Ralph married Elwina Mae “Tucie” Imes in 1945. She passed away in 1948. He graduated from Moulton High School in 1941 as valedictorian of his class. He graduated in the top 5% of his class from Iowa State University in 1946 with an engineering degree. He went on to work for General Electric in New York state and later John Deere. After passing of his wife he moved back to the family farm. In 1958 he became a Moulton rural mail carrier until his retirement in September of 1992. He was an outdoorsman and farm life suited him as he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an avid reader and was always ready to discuss current or past events. He was known on his mail route and through the community for his memory, stories and visiting. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. He is survived by a brother, Robert S Newcomer of Moulton and two nephews, Randy Newcomer of Moulton, Richard Newcomer of Centerville, and great nieces and nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife. Ralph’s wish was to be cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2019 from 5 – 7 p.m. at the American Legion Hall in Moulton. Pastor Brian Hargrave will open the Celebration and then the public will be welcome to share their memories of Ralph. Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements.
