March 31 1943 August 21 2019
Philip Richard Eggers went home to be with his heavenly Father on August 21st, 2019, at the age of seventy-six years old. He died unexpectedly at his home in Jonesborough, Tennessee. Among those Phil leaves behind are: his wife Criselda of Jonesborough, TN; daughter Kathleen Johnson of Seattle, WA; son Dan Eggers of Seattle, WA; grandchildren Morgan and Tyler; sister Carlyn Draeger of Seattle, WA; brother Tom Eggers of Seattle, WA; brother Jim Eggers; as well as many cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends. Philip was born March 31st, 1943 in Tonasket, WA, to Carl and Helen (Schulze) Eggers. He was eldest of five children. He graduated from Concordia High School in Portland Oregon in 1961 and Bellevue Community College where he studied Wood Technology. Following graduation, he started work for the Simpson Timber Company, as part of their research group in Redmond, WA. Shortly after, he married his first wife, Liz Pearson, with whom he had two children: Kathleen and Dan. As a father, he enjoyed participating in outdoors activities with his children, taking Kathleen and Dan trout fishing and hunting, and chaperoning weekend ski trips to the Cascade Mountains. He shared his appreciation of sports with the kids as well as coaching boys and girls basketball and refereeing soccer matches. The son of a Lutheran minister, Phil took after his father and began serving in his community at an early age, a practice he would maintain throughout his life. As a young man, he worked as a counselor with Eastside Youth Services in Bellevue, WA. He also served as pack leader for the Fall City boy scout troop. In the early 1980’s, after twenty-five years with Simpson Timber, Phil decided he was ready for a change and went to work in the Philippines, where he eventually started his own door manufacturing business. He also worked as a consultant for various Philippine Door Manufacturing Companies like Pacwood, Extensive and Baliwag. While overseas, Phil met Criselda (Munsod) at Pacwood who would become his lifelong companion. The couple married in 1986. Phil and Criselda moved to the United States, making their home in Washington State for 11 years. The couple eventually moved to Johnson City, TN where they both went to work for Ry-Marc Plastics, a plastic injection molding company. Later, Phil worked for American Paneling. He retired from the workforce in 2004. Phil remained active during retirement, continuing to volunteer in his community, as he’d done most of his life. He found fulfillment in serving others through his position as Elder at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where he was a friend to the elderly and the infirmed. He also gave his time to feeding the hungry at The Melting Pot at Munsey United Methodists Good Samaritan Ministries. In addition to serving those in need, Phil enjoyed working in the yard of his Jonesborough home, caring for his many cats, cooking and reading. Phil was the sort of person you love to spend time with. He was a good listener and a wonderful storyteller; possessing an incredible memory, he could describe past experiences with impeccable detail. He loved to give gifts. Phil was well known for regularly calling friends and family to deliver well wishes for birthdays and anniversaries, or simply to check in on them. He will be dearly missed by all who had the fortune of knowing him. A celebration of life will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Johnson City, TN on Thursday August 29th at 7:00 pm.
