Paul’s Obituary Chief Petty Officer Paul E. Hitt, Sr. decorated WWII Veteran of the South Pacific Campaign passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital in Jasper. He was born on November 8, 1926 to his parents, P. A. Hitt and Julia Bailey Hitt in Port Arthur, Texas. He was a longtime resident of the area. Paul served in the U. S. Navy and retired after 52 years. He retired from Chevron/Gulf Oil as a brickmason after 35 years of service. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, his two sons, Dwight David Hitt and James M. Hitt. He is survived by his loving wife, Clara Lyssy Hitt of Newton, his daughter, Julia Myers and husband, Archie of Bridge City, his son, Paul E. Hitt, Jr. and wife, Teresa of Newton, his daughter-in-law, Josie Hitt of Miami, Florida along with 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren. Serving as pallbearers will be Jim Savoy, Adam Myers, Benjamin Myers, Samantha Myers, Jerid Hitt and Eric Sapp. Visitation will be on Saturday, August 17, 2019 from 11:00 AM till 12:30 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. Service to honor Paul’s life will be at 12:30 PM Saturday in the Thompson Memorial Chapel at Clayton Thompson. Entombment with Full military honors to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Clayton Thompson. Read More
