Bates, Jr. January 31, 1934 – August 24, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| View Guestbook Entries CARENCRO ~ Graveside services will be held Friday, August 30, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. in Evangeline Memorial Gardens in Carencro for Morris V. Bates, Jr., age 85, who passed away Saturday, August 24, 2019 at his residence in Carencro. Pastor Chris Johnston will officiate at the services. Mr. Bates was a native of McComb, MS and longtime resident of Carencro. He was employed with Shell for thirty-five years, having received numerous safety awards and was known for his meticulous work ethic and attention to detail. A veteran of the military, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force where he was stationed in Guam having received the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal, which did not surprise his family. He was a caring and hard-working man and he was the best husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather anyone could ever hope to have. Survivors include one daughter, Elisha Faulk; two grandchildren, Chelsea Faulk and Colten Faulk; four great grandchildren, Andre O’Brien, Jr., Emma Faulk, Ian Faulk and Hayden Faulk; two sisters, Geneva Cutrer and Bonnie Collins and her husband, Donnie; and one sister-in-law, Linda Bates. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirlie E. Bates; his parents, Morris Vernon Bates, Sr. and the former Tennie Lee Dixon; one brother, James Bates; one brother-in-law, W.D. Cutrer; one nephew, Morris Johnston; and one great nephew, Eric Johnston. Melancon Funeral Home, Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel, 4117 N.
