Mary is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 75 years, Lloyd George, children George Ann (Colin) Bissett, Jeffrey Tobasco and David (Kathleen) Tobasco, grandchildren Julie (Jeff) Maag, Nicholas (Tobi) Bissett, Vincent Tobasco, step-grandchildren, Alethea and Kevin (KC) and proud GeGe of Alyssa, Eastin, Helen and Waverly. Sister of John Pahal, Leo (Sharon)Tobasco and the late Joseph Tobasco, and parents in law, the late Joe and Ann Tobasco, many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Mary was born in Oakdale, Louisiana August 10, 1926 to the late Elmer G. Pahal and Helen Henderson Pahal and is survived by her brother John Pahal and his children and grandchildren, of Louisiana. In preparation of WWII invasions, Mary’s family relocated from Crew Lake to New Orleans for the war effort. She trained at Delgato Trade School, became a welder (Rosie the Riveter type) with Higgins Shipyard, New Orleans, where she welded double bottoms of landing craft boats used for the sea/land invasions in WWII. While working at Higgins she was on the softball team and was called ‘Hot Potato Mac’ . Mary met Georgie in New Orleans, he was unexpectantly reassigned to Florida for presumed Normandy invasion training, so they decided to marry in December 1944, nearly 75 years ago. After the war they eventually relocated to Pittsburgh, with a young family. Mary engaged herself at Telephone Answering Service (TAS) for the next 34 years. She retired as Pittsburgh City Manager in 1991, and in retirement worked as a property manager for family friends, the Kane’s. Mary was known for taking on projects, being a constant and hard worker with great sympathy for others. Mary and George traveled extensively throughout the USA with family friends, visited children and vacationed with them throughout Europe, Turkey, Greece, Lebanon and the United States. She was an avid reader, loved music and knew all of the bands from Glenn Miller to Queen, drove cars very fast, and in retirement became an avid gardener, although as a child in rural Louisiana at the Wynn Family homestead, she stated: “I hate digging in dirt”! Most of all she adored her family and loved her extended family, friends and anyone that crossed her path. Adored having family, friends and new friends to her home. She was a true southern lady with her hospitality. We are sad to say good bye, go in peace our baby girl! Mary Wynn will be forever in family and friends’ hearts as a kind and generous soul. Our family extends heart felt gratitude to all of Mary’s caregivers while at SW Veterans Center in Pittsburgh. You all are what LOVE is.
