Marilyn’s Obituary Marilyn L. Meeks, age 92, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on August 13, 2019 at her home. Born August 10, 1927 in Lebanon, PA she was the daughter of the late Miles W. and Mary Violet (Leininger) Dohner. In her youth, Marilyn resided in the Rexmont/Cornwall area and graduated from Cornwall High School in 1945. Marilyn was employed by the Pennsylvania State Department of Public Assistance in Harrisburg until attending and graduating from Franklin Arts and Science Institute in Philadelphia in 1955. Once completing her degree, she entered the field in hopes of cancer medical research in honor of her mother. Marilyn was employed at Good Samaritan Hospital as a Medical Technologist. Eventually Marilyn married Harry Meeks and relocated to Harrisburg. She had a very successful career at Polyclinic Hospital where she was on the teaching staff of the Laboratory. As life progressed, Marilyn left her career to be a full time mother. In recent years, she was employed by the Mechanicsburg Naval Base Financial Department. Marilyn was very dedicated to her family and grandchildren. She was loved for her generosity, upbeat personality, and sense of humor even in the face of adversity. She spent most of her life doing for others and putting family first. Marilyn was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church and participated in various activities including the Women’s Council. She was very active in charitable organizations and spent many hours doing volunteer work. Her hobbies were collecting art, photography, bowling, horseback riding, and traveling. Marilyn is survived by her two daughters Yvonne M. August of Mechanicsburg, PA and Michelle D. Meeks of Dresher, PA; a son Gregory T. Meeks of Hanover, MD and three grandchildren Valerie Assad, Andrea Assad, and Ayden Carson. In addition to her husband, Harry Meeks, Marilyn was preceded in death by her brother M. Jack Dohner. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 3435 East Trindle Road, Camp Hill, PA. Visitation will be held one hour prior to Mass from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Mechanicsburg.
