Marianne Smith was born May 24, 1930 at the Smith Ranch southwest of Nuyaka to the late Hugh C. and Mary Frances (Yankee) Smith. She passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. She attended grade school in Nuyaka and, beginning in the eighth grade, attended Monte Cassino School, graduating in 1948. She then attended the nursing program at St. Johns College and in 1952 graduated from Montana State College. She met Benjamin Harned, Jr. in March 1953 and they married August 23, 1953 in Bozeman, Montana. She was a surgical nurse for a short time before returning to Oklahoma. Mrs. Harned was active in the First Christian Church and the church’s ladies groups. She was also a former member of several local ladies organizations. Preceding her in death were her grandparents, parents, husband, son, Thomas Grant Harned, siblings, Richard Smith, James Smith and Vivian Smith Burke, two nieces and a nephew. Survivors include her son, Calvin Lee Harned and wife Gwen of Okmulgee, daughter, Elizabeth Anne Harned and companion, Clifford Kochick of Tecumseh, a brother, Calvin Smith and wife Alice of Harrison, Montana, numerous nieces and nephews, one great niece, one great nephew and one great grand niece. Friends may visit the funeral home on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 from 12:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. and the family will be present for visitation from 4:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M. A funeral service will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel in Okmulgee. Interment will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Mrs. Harned’s memory may be made to the Okmulgee Salvation Army Food Bank. Arrangements have been entrusted to the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.
