Maria (Krawczyk) Szmigiel, 90, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 11, 2019, with her loving family at her side. Born in Lipniki, Poland on January 11, 1929, daughter of the late Boleslaw and Katarzyna (Parzych) Krawczyk, she has resided in Chicopee for most of her life. A communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Maria retired from Spalding Manufacturing after many years of service. She was an avid cook and gardener, spent time taking trips to the beach and traveling, especially to Florida and Poland, and greatly enjoyed listening to Polish music and dancing. Above all else, her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Maria was predeceased in 2008 by her beloved husband, Walter Szmigiel. She is survived by her loving children, Veronica Lech and husband Christopher of Feeding Hills, Christine Lee and husband Cuyler of Rotonda West, FL, Joseph Szmigiel of Chicopee, and Edward Szmigiel and wife Heather of Rotonda West, FL; nine cherished grandchildren and six cherished great-grandchildren; sister, Zofia Wiecek and husband Marian of Poland; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers in Poland and by her daughter-in-law, Sofia Szmigiel. Funeral services for Maria will be held Saturday from Kozikowski Funeral Home, 565 Front St., Chicopee, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 56 St. Anthony St., Chicopee. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Calling hours are Saturday morning from 8:30-10:30AM.
