Lowell’s Obituary Lowell Haverstick was the youngest of three children born to Marion and Cecil Haverstick on September 2, 1927. He passed away peacefully on July 31, 2019. He had two sons, Bob (Cathy) and Paul (Nancy), with his first wife, Margaret LaVerne Haverstick. He was blessed to be married to Ina Haverstick for 41 years, and with Ina, came four children: Lisa (Les), Sarona (David), Phillip, and Kimberli (Libba). With the two blended families, there were nine grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. Lowell was known and respected for his extreme work ethic. When he owned an excavation/earth moving business in the 1950s, the loading equipment would sometimes break down, and he would load a one-ton truck with gravel, one shovel full at a time. He often told his sons, if a task seemed too difficult, just remember—anything can be accomplished “one shovel full at a time.” Lowell found his calling in the automobile business. He started selling cars in 1960 at Smart & Perry Ford in Greenwood, and bought his first car dealership (Haverstick American Motors) in 1972, and his second car dealership (Haverstick Chevrolet) in 1981. From 1991 to 2019, he was still going to car auctions and buying and selling cars for family members and friends. Lowell was proud to have been a member of the Beech Grove Masonic Lodge since 1953. Since he always had a great singing voice, he joined the Scottish Rite Chorus in 1993. Lowell was one of the good guys who loved telling stories and sharing his latest medical remedy from the most recent article of Reader’s Digest. He was raised in the Center United Methodist Church as a young man and was attending the Middletown United Methodist Church prior to his passing. Lowell opted to not have a funeral service—he said there were only five members of his class of 1945 from Southport High School still living, and all his old car buddies had already passed on to their great reward. There will be a private Masonic Service held at Round Hill Cemetery in the future. Any memorial contributions can be made to The Children’s Dyslexia Center of Indianapolis, 650 N. Meridian Street, Indianapolis, IN 46204. Read More
